Terminals, tabs and split screen
Click a server in Sessions to open it in a new tab. You can open as many as you like, including the same server twice.
The terminal tab
At the top of each SSH tab you'll see who you're signed in as, and three buttons:
- Split — show a second terminal side by side in the same tab.
- Tunnels — forward a port through this connection (Port forwarding).
- Files — open the file manager for this server (File manager).
On Linux servers a bar shows live CPU, memory and disk use, updated every few seconds. On other systems (network devices, macOS, BSD) it stays hidden — that's expected.
Moving around quickly
| Action | Shortcut |
|---|---|
| Go to any server or tab (quick switcher) | Ctrl+K (⌘K on Mac) |
| Next / previous tab | Alt+Shift+→ / Alt+Shift+← |
| Close the current tab | Alt+Shift+W |
| Split the current tab | Alt+Shift+D |
| Show / hide the sidebar | Alt+Shift+B |
| Focus mode (terminal only, full window) | Ctrl+. (⌘. on Mac) |
You can change every shortcut — see Keyboard shortcuts.
Folders
Group servers into folders with Folder / group in a server's settings, or ⋯ → Move to folder… (or drag a server onto a folder) — see Organize and share your servers. Drag folders to reorder them, and click a folder's name to collapse it. Type in Search sessions… to filter the list.
Copy and paste
Select text with the mouse, then copy it with right-click → Copy (or ⌘C on a Mac). In a terminal Ctrl+C means "stop the running command", so on Windows and Linux use right-click instead. Paste with right-click → Paste, Ctrl+V or ⌘V.
Find and save the output
- Find (top of the tab, or Ctrl+Shift+F / ⌘⇧F) searches everything in the terminal's scrollback. Enter goes to the next match, Shift+Enter to the previous one; Aa matches case and .* searches with a regular expression. Esc closes it. Text you've selected is searched straight away.
- Save output downloads everything in the terminal's scrollback as a text file — handy for keeping a record of a change or sending a log to a colleague. It happens in your browser; nothing is stored on the server. How far back it goes depends on Scrollback in Terminal appearance.
Changing how it looks
Font, size, spacing, cursor, colour scheme and scrollback are in Settings → Terminal appearance — see Themes, fonts and cursor.
